Research confirms the first five years are particularly important for children's brain development and during the first three years, children learn more quickly than any other time in their life. To ensure children are getting off to the right start in their educational journey at MGLC, we have carefully chosen one of the highest-quality, researched-based early learning programs for our infant, toddler and preschoolers.
The Creative Curriculum® is a nationally recognized curriculum that is in line with the Iowa Quality Early Learning Standards. The philosophy behind The Creative Curriculum® is that young children learn best through play. At MGLC, our preschool program focuses on children's natural curiosity as our teachers intentionally plan weekly projects.
You will not see the typical thematic lesson planning that is done year after year as with many other preschool programs. Our teaching staff take cues from the interest of your children through formal observations, then carefully plan classroom projects based on the children's interest, allowing them to find out how things work and to learn first hand about the world we live in.
When exploring interest areas such as blocks, children learn about sizes, shapes and colors, and they notice relationships between things. In time they learn to use one object to stand for another which is the beginning of symbolic thinking.
The Creative Curriculum® identifies goals in the following developmental areas:
